Freda ebook app now out for Android devices: Attn. public domain lovers

Love public domain books and hate DRM?

Then you’d do well to help developers like Turnipsoft. Its Freda app plays up Project Gutenberg, other public domain sites, and those friendly to small publishers.

Once just for Windows, Freda is now available in the Google Play store for your feedback on a free beta version.

Why not help out? To get a feel for the territory, check out TeleRead’s earlier writings about this program for ePub, FB2, HTML and TXT format books.

5 Ways to Use Instagram in your Book Marketing as an Indie Author

As an indie author your book marketing approach should include some social media, and for some genres, it should include a lot of social media!

Pew Research Center’s report released at the end of 2016 shows us that:

  • 28% of all U.S. adults use Instagram
  • An estimated 59% of online adults ages 18 – 29 use Instagram
  • 33% of 30 to 49-year-olds use Instagram
  • Female use it more than men, 38% to 26%, respectively

So very clearly, if your reader demographic is women between the ages of 18 and 49, Instagram is a pretty solid place for you to spend part of your book marketing time.

Use it to nurture relationships with fans and draw in new buyers!

If you’re new to Instagram or haven’t even attempted to set up a profile, here are some tips for making it work for you as an indie author. Instagram is only part of your indie author real estate.  Don’t worry that this overwhelms you!

Mark Desvaux and Mark Stay—the coauthors of the comical sci-fi novel Back to Reality, about a mother who gets a life reboot by time-traveling to the 1990s—have done their homework so aspiring authors don’t have to. They have known one another since they were teenagers growing up in Surrey, England, and are both men of many hats. Stay works with Orion Publishing Group in the U.K. and is also a screenwriter. He cowrote the 2015 film Robot Overlords, which stars Gillian Anderson and Ben Kingsley. Desvaux lives on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, where he writes nonfiction under the name Mark Oliver, works as a life coach, and plays in a band named Urban Myth Club.

Here’s the Social Media Content Your Audience Does NOT Want to See You Post

Let’s be honest for a second here. When it comes to quality, a large amount of social media content posted by brands isn’t good. In fact, in terms of subject matter, copy, photo quality, and more, much of the content is downright cringeworthy.

Here’s the good news, though: Most of the solutions to these mistakes are quick, easy fixes. To illustrate this, here are the things your audience doesn’t want to see you post on social media.

7 Ways To Generate More Sales Using Linkedin

As someone who makes his living teaching professionals how to utilize LinkedIn to generate more business for themselves, I remain convinced that the platform is one of the most exciting – and misunderstood – business opportunities available right now.

For whatever reason, LinkedIn can’t seem to shake the notion that it’s “only” a place to find a job or hire a new employee.

But as I’ve learned spending 48 straight months selling products and services on the site, LinkedIn is one of the biggest (and best) opportunities online right now for you to generate oodles of sales leads, add new clients and land new business.

I want to spend the rest of this post sharing the specific path I see successful professionals taking on LinkedIn when it comes to generating more sales leads, adding customers and increasing revenue.

Some of these tips might seem counterintuitive at first glance, but that’s why they work so well – they break from the conventional wisdom and outdated beliefs about LinkedIn.

Checklist: Eight Items to Include in an Author’s Book Listing

Comments and feedback on my post on bookshelf plugins for WordPress taught me that many authors still build a critical part of their website, the pages for each of their books, by hand. I like using said plugins because they make it easy, but I have built a few book pages by hand for a site hosted on Squarespace.

Building a book page freehand takes more work, but it also gives you more opportunity to tweak a design so it fits with a particular author’s style or with the book.

Here’s the checklist I put together to make sure I don’t miss important details. Do let me know in the comments if I left something off.
