Writer’s Question: Should You Put All Your Books in One Store (@Amazon)?

January 22, 2017 1:49 pm / Leave a comment

Writer asked me recent question:

Why don’t you just make your books available exclusively through Amazon to cut out all the headache of trying to find your money, plus you can get nice sales and reviews there?

Here’s my reply

DON’T PUT YOUR EGGS IN ONE BASKET…

Becoming an author is difficult and then at the end of the month, I have to become a pimp and constantly ask where is my money.

True Amazon does cut down on the frustration, but I’m an author, which means I’m in the business of publishing books for readers.

Readers are my customers and I have to think about them instead of concentrating on my frustration.

Four years. four years I’ve been on smashwords. the first year, I didn’t make a bump. Not even a free download, the second, I think I did…

Memoir author’s book marketing success story

January 20, 2017 8:41 pm / Leave a comment

I met freelance writer Jen Miller when she took the inaugural Build Book Buzz Book Marketing 101 e-course several years ago.

At the time, she had just authored a regional travel guide to the Jersey shore. Today, she’s coming off the successful launch of her memoir, Running: A Love Story: 10 Years, 5 Marathons, and 1 Life-Changing Sport from Seal Press (March 2016 publication date).

I’ve been following Jen’s book marketing activities through her Facebook posts and have been impressed not only with her effort, but with the results, as well. She has done a masterful job of leveraging her skills, experience, and platform to create a book marketing success story

Reminder Authors: Have you set up your February Promotion yet? Let us know in the comments!

I was sitting around staring at my Author’s Social Media Planner Book – really just staring at the outside of the planner wishing I’d decorated in a more fashionable way.

I clicked on the Internet and found a lot of Valentine’s Day reminders were starting to pop off.

I decided right then and there to jump over to Canva.com and put together a quick .png. I borrowed a book Lover day ad, copied it and then posted it in my Hootsuite and Buffer, plus scheduled it out in my Facebook page.

It’s not much, but enough to draw attention for lovers of romance.

This is the status message attached:

In Hootsuite that schedules to my Facebook Profile, Twitter, Go.ogle Plus for Motown Writers (for the SEO) and Motown Writers Group, I schedule my post every three days from here on out starting on the 18th of January.

For Buffer, I just did one schedule Que’d post and then I jumped over to Facebook Page, which also posts to my Twitter to post every 5 days starting on the 20th

These will all run until February the 14th.

I might do a giveaway. Still thinking about it.

What are you doing for your February Campaign? Please share in the comments with your website to link to it.

Contact information is probably not the first thing that comes to mind when you think about book sales. But what if someone needs 50 copies of your book but wants to call you to negotiate a bulk price? Will he find your phone number at your website within 10 seconds? Or will you make him search for it until he becomes so frustrated that he leaves?

Missing Contact Info is Killing Your Book Sales by Joan Stewart for BookWorks.comWhat if a reader, who never buys anything online, wants your book and prefers to pay with a check? Will she be able to find your mailing address

How Writers Can Improve Their SEO without Pricey ExpertsGoogle and Facebook are similar in one way; they frequently tweak their algorithms. It’s only Google that changes its algorithm for SEO.

And while Facebook announces its algorithm revisions without assigning names to the changed algorithms, Google does assign monikers to its changes

Technology makes it easier than ever to shout out your message to the world. But these tools are available to everyone—and everyone’s using them. How can you be heard above the noise?

Publicity helps you rise above the noise. When you connect with influencers and let them spread your message, they reach more people than you can alone. With the right email—to the right person—you can get booked as a guest or for an interview.

Over my years working in the media, I’ve seen many do this wrong. Below are 13 tips to help you avoid some of their mistakes…
