I love a good list, and I’ve been collecting links again. This time, it’s a collection of resources that can help you promote your book.

The Author’s Social Media Bio Formula

An important detail that’s often overlooked or slapped together at the last minute is the bio or about section on social media outlets. It’s one of those details that we put off because we simply don’t know what to say.

Your bio is one of the most important aspects of your social media platform. It’s your five-second opportunity to hook new readers and tell them why they should follow you.

And here’s the kicker – your social media isn’t for you, it’s for your readers. When someone visits your profile, you need to let them know what you have to offer, what you will share with them, and then lead them to their next step.

You have just a few hundred characters to grab your reader’s attention, so it’s important to use this section wisely.

Each outlet has a different number of characters available for the bio section, but the overall approach is still the same. Here’s what you have to work with:

Email marketing for authors: MailChimp by Frances Caballo for BookWorks.comIf you aren’t using email marketing, you may want to rethink your marketing strategy.

We know that social media is all the rage—and rightly so—but email marketing, according to Kissmetrics “crushes” social media.

Email Marketing Has Advantages Over Social Media

Here are their findings:

1 – There are nearly three times as many user accounts for email as there are for Facebook and Twitter combined.

2 – Email is more personal. You can reach people right in their email inboxes and craft messages just for your readers.

3 – Email gets more attention and the messages are more targeted.

4 – You can use your email marketing messages to sell books, services, and other products.

If you’re considering going the traditional publishing route, your publisher will ask you about your email list numbers. If you’re an indie author, you need an email marketing program to keep in touch with your readers, announce new books, and solicit advance reviews, so you can sell more books.

50 Kickass Resources for Indie Authors #h2e

So the main difference between being an indie author versus working with a publisher is personal accountability. Though most authors come to the shocking realization that being traditionally published means MUCH less than they thought…but that’s a topic for another blog.

Back to accountability. If you’re an indie author you are solely responsible for the success of your work. That’s a big task, but it’s not impossible. And the key to making your book promotion efforts manageable is having the right resources in your arsenal. The right resources, in turn, will help you develop a plan of action.

This list I’ve compiled is in no particular order, and if there’s a resource you use religiously that we’ve left off please, please share it and give them some love – that’s what this is all about. I’m not doing this to kiss any rings; I’m doing this to help you become a better author.

I encourage you to work through this list, check them all out, and bookmark the ones that you vibe with, or the ones that meet your needs right now. And please bookmark this list as well, because as you grow, your book marketing needs will grow, and you’ll likely want to revisit a lot of these fab individuals and groups!

Are you an indie author? Here are 50 Kickass Resources you’ll want to check out!!

9 Ways to Boost Visitor Engagement on Your Website #OLBlog #h2e

Regardless of your niche or target market, there is absolutely no shortage of competition on the web. No matter how you look at it, you’re locked in a fierce battle for the attention of website visitors. And therein lies the challenge. Not only is there a staggering amount of competition, but people’s attention spans have dwindled to the point where we can measure them in mere seconds.

Here is the problem this creates: Your website was built with a purpose in mind.
That might be attracting new clients, selling a product, promoting a service or maybe it’s a news site that relies on visitors and ad impressions. The point here is that when a new visitor lands on your site, there is something you’d like them to do.

If they leave your site without taking your desired action, you’ve wasted your opportunity. That’s why simply focusing on traffic numbers is such a waste of time.

What really matters is how engaged your visitors are with your website. Are they sticking around long enough to take your desired action? Most of the time, the answer is no, they’re not.

In this post, we’re going to focus on some different ideas that might help you boost visitor engagement on your website. The longer someone is on your site, the more likely they are to take the desired action and convert against your goals.

How To Have a Top Book on Goodreads via Author Marketing Experts #h2e

Goodreads has become a front-and-center social network for authors.

First with their Amazon relationship (Amazon purchased Goodreads in 2013), and now they’re topping out at over 50 million users.

Though many authors and publishers vowed to close their Goodreads accounts after the merger, Goodreads is still going strong and maintaining its independence.

Goodreads CEO Otis Chandler cites three primary factors behind this acceleration: “a critical mass of book reviews,” “explosive” mobile growth, and international expansion.

If you’re not on Goodreads or if you haven’t touched your account in a while, you should consider all the benefits this site offers. I go into more in-depth strategies in my upcoming, updated, edition of How To Sell Books By The Truckload so keep an eye out for the release in August!

In the meantime I want to ensure you know about Goodreads awesome list and ranking feature: Listopia.’

The Simple Facebook Posting Strategy That Helped us 3x Our Reach & Engagement @buffer

In October of 2016 we dramatically changed our Facebook posting strategy.

A gradual, but noticeable shift in many social media algorithms and an influx of brand advertising on Facebook meant that it was important for us to either start experimenting or we’d continue to see a decline in organic reach and engagement.

Getting your content seen on Facebook is no small task. Especially when you consider all the content shared to Facebook every 20 minutes:

  • 1 million links are shared
  • 4.86 million photos are uploaded
  • 763,888 status updates are sent out

We needed to make a change.

We cut our posting frequency by more than 50% on Facebook and began to truly focus on quality over quantity. What happened next, even the most optimistic social media manager couldn’t have expected:

Our Facebook reach and engagement began to increase even though we were posting less!

Here are some of the headline stats:

  • Reach has more than tripled from 44,000 to 150,000+ people per week on Facebook
  • Average daily engagements with our Facebook content has risen from ~500 to more than 1,000
  • More and more of our posts are reaching between 5,000-20,000 people (before we made the change, many of our posts were reaching less than 2,000 people)

I’m super excited to share the data behind this growth with you and take you behind the scenes of our latest Facebook posting strategy.

Let’s dive in!

10 Ways To Build Powerful Connections With Influencers #Jeffbullas #h2e

Are you fed up with being ignored by influential people in your niche?

Does every email you send seem to be fall into the darkest depths of the digital ether?

Do you find yourself hopefully checking your email inbox anyway, patiently waiting for that magic reply?

Well, unless the email monster is back again, it looks like you could use some help building connections with influencers.

The biggest problem I see in this area is people who go in cold.

How would you like it if some random person came to your door and started telling you their life story?

But if you already knew a bit about the person, you might be more tempted to listen. Let’s say you’d actually read their content and seen their name around.

This would make you more likely to become a part of their community and more disposed to build a relationship.

After all, friends like to help friends!

And in that spirit, I’m going to share with you my top ten ways to build powerful connections with influential bloggers in your niche.
